Hey everyone, today I’m going to talk about how Beachbody programs changed the life of one of my former personal training clients. The story is about a woman named Janet who I used to train 3 days a week at her home. I used to bring all of the necessary equipment in order to train her and over the course of three years she lost approximately 50lbs! We had made fantastic progress together and always had a blast working together.
One day, Janet told me that she was starting to have financial problems and that she could no longer afford my personal training services. I recommended that she purchase a gym membership at the gym I worked at but I knew that this was not a viable solution as she did not like exercising in front of others and she preferred exercising in the comfort of her own home.
I also considered suggesting for her to buy all the equipment that I would bring over for our training sessions but all the equipment in aggregate would have been fairly expensive and without proper guidance, she would have struggled getting a consistent quality workout.
About one month later I got a call from Janet telling me how things had gotten completely out of control. Once she stopped working with me, she also completely gave up on her diet as well. She told me that she had gained at least 10lbs over the last month and that she needed to find a solution fast or otherwise she would go right back to where she started 3 years ago.
This is when I introduced her for the first time to Beachbody programs. She needed something to jumpstart her exercise program again but nothing that would kill her like one of the P90x or Insanity programs. I knew she wouldn’t be interested in one of those. I started her off with the 21 Day Fix so that she could lose the 10lbs and be back to where we left off after she discontinued her training with me. I did the very first workout with her in order to let her get a good feel for the workouts. After the 3 week program was up, she seemed almost like a brand new person. She had lost the 10 lb and had a new spark for working out at home with these workout DVDs!
Let me highlight some of the reasons why the you 21 Day Fix program worked so well for Janet.
The easy-to-follow diet program
The 21 Day Fix program came with it’s super easy to follow diet program. We were following a similar diet with our personal training but she had to weigh her foods using a food scale which was very time-consuming and annoying. The new portion control containers made a world of difference in how easy it was for Janet to stick with her diet. I think the introduction of portion control containers is one of the most revolutionary things that Beachbody has done.
Janet hates working out in front of other people
As I mentioned above, I suggested to Janet that she join a gym so that I can help her with her programs on the side. I knew that this was never going to work due to the fact that she hates working out in front of other people. That is why we always did our personal training sessions in the comfort of her own home. I knew that there was no way she would actually work out unless she was able to perform them in her own home.
Janet needs precise instructions to motivate her
Janet needs an instructor to show her precisely what to do in order for her to do it. When I was working with her as a trainer I used to write down simple bodyweight workouts that she could do on her own if she wanted to train without me one day. In the whole 3 year period that we trained together, she never once worked out on her own. She told me that she could not muster up the motivation to workout without somebody telling her what to do.
Luckily, Beachbody programs have excellent instructors that are constantly telling you what to do and how to do it. Not only that, they are also extremely motivating people that will push you to take it to the next level. That is the difference between having a workout written down on a piece of paper and having somebody in front of your face telling you what to do step by step.
The price for this program was reasonable
The price for the 21 Day Fix program was very reasonable. In fact it was only slightly more than the cost of a single hour of personal training with me. It was very easy for Janet to rationalize one month of working out for the same price as one session. Additionally, I told her that she could always repeat the same exercise program for another 3 weeks if she was seeing great results with it.
What came next?
After Janet completed the 21 Day Fix program, I suggested that she try PiYo. She had expressed an interest in getting involved with yoga at some point but didn’t feel comfortable taking a class. She ended up loving the PiYo program just as much as the 21 Day Fix program. We are using both of them interchangeably with the 21 Day Fix mostly targeting the goal of weight loss and the PiYo program mostly targeting the goal of flexibility and toning. The combination of these two have been a fantastic fit for Janets goals and lifestyle.
