Hey everyone, my name is Tyler Read and I have been working as a personal trainer for the better part of ten years. On top of that, I am an active Beachbody Coach and avid user of various Beachbody products. In this article I would like to talk to you about my personal perspective on Beachbody products and how these programs compare to typical personal training in a gym. Before I begin, I would first like to thank Bob Sharpe for giving me the opportunity to reach his audience. He is a fantastic coach and I am glad to be part of this team.
Obviously, there are several main differences between doing a Beachbody program and personal training sessions. When I first started working as a personal trainer I was opposed to the idea of doing at-home workouts. I thought there was no way that you could get a quality workout in the comfort of your own home. It wasn’t until I went on a three-month vacation about five years ago that I really gave at-home workouts a try because there was no gym I could go to.
I started out with the original P90x series and was pleasantly surprised by how difficult it was. By the end of the program I ended up looking significantly more lean and muscular. This was the turning point for me. I quickly decided to try multiple other Beachbody programs such as the insanity series as well as the Body Beast program. Just like the original P90x program, I saw fantastic results from these as well!
These Beachbody programs became my go-to for recommending client’s workout programs that they could do in their own home. Obviously for a lot of my clients, personal training is still necessary because they have very specific needs such as post rehab exercise or sport-specific training, but for a lot of my clients that want workouts that they can do to stay in shape at home, these video workout series were perfect! Let me talk about some of the benefits I have found with supplementing Beachbody workouts with personal training.
They give great instruction on form, tempo and energy
One of the biggest reasons that people purchase personal training is to provide motivation, develop a workout plan and instruction on how to perform the exercises properly. I know from personal experience that a lot of my clients would never work out if they didn’t have somebody telling them what to do or getting them excited about working out.
This is one of the main reasons I suggest Beachbody programs to clients that can only make it to the gym a couple days a week or to my clients that can’t afford personal training as often as they would like to. I think these are great supplementary workouts for three main reasons.
- The first reason is that all of the instructors do a good job of teaching how to perform each individual exercise. This is important for a lot of my clients that are especially new to exercise. Proper form is critical to preventing injuries and for obtaining the desired results. The Beachbody instructors do an excellent job at explaining the intricacies of proper form
- These programs also do a good job of outlying how many repetitions, sets and the tempo that the exercises should be performed. This instruction is critical to help my clients stay on track and optimize their workout.
- Possibly the biggest reason that these programs are helpful is that the programs really motivate my clients. All of the instructors that I have witnessed from Beachbody products are extremely high-energy and motivating people. This is a very important factor especially for clients that need this sort of push.
They can be used to help supplement weight loss or muscle building routines
The good thing about Beachbody products is that they all have a different goal in mind. This goes right along with the wide range of individuals I train in the gym. Some of them just want to lose body fat while others want to get toned and lean. Then I have my clients that have a tough time gaining weight and require a solid muscle building routine.
For my clients that are in reasonable shape and want to focus purely on losing weight, I suggest that they give Insanity a try. For clients that want to tone up for the summer I typically recommend doing one of the P90x routines as a supplementary program at home. For my clients that want to focus purely on building muscle, I recommend performing the muscle building Body Beast program on the days that they don’t train with me or can’t make it to the gym.
These programs have been great supplements to our one-on-one training and I have continued to receive stellar feedback from my clients as they are seeing great results from the combination.
Some people don’t have the money or don’t feel comfortable in the gym setting
One of the biggest problems that my clients run into is that they either don’t have enough money to pay for the gym or don’t have the money to see me as often as they would like for personal training. I also have plenty of clients that don’t feel completely comfortable in the gym setting. This might be because they are out of shape and self-conscious about their body, or simply because they like training in solitude.
Whatever the case may be, Beachbody programs are an excellent alternative for clients like this. Programs such as P90x or insanity are much cheaper in the long run than a gym membership that cost $50 a month and I don’t even want to get into the cost of a personal trainer such as myself.
It is also a great option for people that would like to get in shape at home before they step into a gym so that they don’t feel self-conscious.
There are also people that simply like to workout at home because they feel better training without so many people around them.
For all of these types of clients, I recommend Beachbody products as a fantastic alternative. I have received countless thank-yous from my clients due to my recommendation of Beachbody programs.
Well there you have it everyone, three great reasons why supplementing personal training and Beachbody programs can have a fantastic outcome. I understand that some people can’t pay for personal training as much as they would like. I still feel the desire to help these individuals reach their fitness goals and being a Beachbody Coach in addition to a personal trainer allows me to do just that. I still have great relationships with my clients and can still coach them to their fitness goals despite the fact that I don’t see them one on one with great frequency. These programs have positively impacted the way my clients see and maintain results. I am grateful for that! So, if you are a personal trainer or are receiving personal training, I suggest speaking to your clients or trainer about integrating Beachbody programs into your routine, I guarantee they will thank you for it!
