Brian’s P90X Transformation Story
I have struggled with my weight since childhood. I had always been overweight growing up. As a sophomore in high school, I made a change and started eating clean. I started losing weight rapidly. By senior year, I had lost 100 lbs., going from 285 down to 185. My life completely changed. I was so much more outgoing and felt as though I had finally come out of my shell that I had been in for so long. I continued onto college and things were great, until I lost my father suddenly in July 2012, shortly after my 21st birthday. I was incredibly close with my father. He was my friend, my coach, my mentor. After his death, my life started snowballing in the wrong direction. I dropped out of college, started spending money impulsively, and became a social recluse. I turned to food to help ease the pain. Over the next two years, I gained back everything I lost, and then some, ballooning up to a maximum weight of 330 lbs. This was my new “normal”…until I decided to do something about it.
On January 25, 2015, I started P90X in what was a half-hearted New Year’s resolution effort. I was not that committed, honestly. I thought I’d start the program and give up after a week or two like I had always done in the past. In the past, I thought I had to keep up with everyone in the video. And when I couldn’t, I would get frustrated and give up. However, this time I learned to embrace the struggle. I embraced the challenge of this 90-day grind and told myself that I was going to stick with it. Before I knew it, it was Day 30. Then Day 60. I kept losing weight and my endurance was improving. And then I finally reached Day 90. I lost 34 lbs. and am thrilled with my results. It feels like such a great accomplishment. P90X is a grind, no doubt about it. There are good days and bad days, but just keep pushing play because it is so worth it!
My biggest challenge was inertia. Once things start spiraling out of control in one direction, it is hard to put your foot down and commit to turning in the opposite direction. Since I lost my father, I never left my “comfort zone” again. I was very detached from the world. I have learned that the only way we can grow as people is to leave our comfort zones. As a new coach, I am committed to always striving to leave my comfort zone in order to help improve my life and those that I connect with through this great community that is Beachbody!
Congrats Brian on your P90X Transformation. This is just the beginning…get ready for INSANITY Max 30!
