Onto Day 5 with my P90X3 Day 5 CVX review. What in the world is CVX? It’s a cardio-based program that uses weights! CardioVascular X-treme. I will start off today by saying that I really enjoyed this workout!
I have been doing a lot of cardio programs this past year, and I was sick of them. I really don’t like cardio. I hate running. Because of this, I was worried when it was time for this workout. But great enough, Tony Horton himself says that he’s not a cardi0 person himself in the introduction to the video! That put me at ease, and then the workout began. Super awesome and a great pump too. Best part: You don’t need a lot of weight! I used 8 pounds and a few moves with 5 pound weights. That’s it!
P90X3 Day 5 CVX – My Review and Thoughts
My heart rate max was 181 beats per minute, which, for my age, is WILD! My average heart rate maintained around 170 throughout the workout.
Some of these moves reminded me of P90X Plyometrics. Specifically, what used to be called Mary Katherine lunges, and Towel Jumps. The benefit is that you have added weight (again, just 5-8 pounds).
What I like the most about P90X3 Day 5 CVX is the combination of weights and cardio as I mentioned above. I was doing some research recently and heard a lot about how weight training could be more beneficial for weight loss and looking fit than just pure cardio. Cardio does an excellent job of melting away fat. BUT, sometimes (and in my case in the past), with trying to lose fat, your body can also feed on muscle a lot too. So how do you stop your body from using muscle for energy vs fat!?
My two tools that I use to ensure I am burning FAT vs muscle is:
- Doing P90X3 CVX! Cardio with weights = working the muscle.
- Eating Protein and Protein-Sourced nutrition. Each day I make sure I hit my macros on protein. Two great tools I use are the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Natural Protein (you can get it at any vitamin shop). I usually mix the Protein shake with Shakeology and drink them as a power shake for lunch each day. This gives me the excellent balance so my body isn’t trying to find energy sources, like my muscles!
Of course, if this is your first time here, I also use MyFitnessPal regularly to make sure I’m not over-eating or dropping the ball (haha).
