I was clueless. I mean, super clueless, about what Pilates X was all about. But in today’s P90X3 Pilates review I’ll tell you all about why I thought this workout was tough and how you can succeed in the world of Pilates.
I have to be honest and say that I never truly knew what Yoga was until I originally tried that out with P90X. This was a similar experience. In the beginning of the video Tony described Pilates with some type of reformer. I initially had no clue what he was talking about on this “reformer” deal too, so I looked it up:
What is a Pilates Reformer (that you don’t need for P90X3…)
A reformer is a replacement for the mat (or floor) that you use for Pilates. It has springs, pulleys, and bars that help you with many other Pilates exercises. According toDefined Body Pilates, it really is for more of an advanced Pilates client. So do not stress about it not being used in P90X3 Pilates X. In fact, that would be just one more item ofequipment that we would need to get lol!
P90X3 Pilates Review of the Moves
Here is my review of some of the moves within P90X3 Pilates.
Hundreds – This was the very first move. Seems pretty easy at first (until you keep on going – that is where the trick of Pilates X kicks into high gear). As they joke about, I definitely felt like I was trying to give birth or something during this move. 5 breaths in, and 5 breaths out while lying on the back and pumping your arms up and down during the breaths.
Scissor Ball – the eight move that really started making me cry like a baby. My abs were on fire, and I started thinking to myself that I really underestimated the power of P90X3 Pilates. After all, after moves like The Challenge and Incinerator, what is the deal with Pilates anyway? he he…
After going through P90X3 Pilates review for a few times now, I would recommend that you focus on your core. But even more than that, focus on ENGAGING your abs and core throughout the entire workout. Don’t worry about being perfect at all of the moves, but focus on the core power. During one of the times that I did P90X3 Pilates I wasn’t paying attention to my core, and my lower back started hurting. OWW! Take my advice please 😛
Alphabet Soup – This is the 14th move within the program. By now you definitely have a nice core workout and overall functional fitness workout in the books. I actually really enjoyed this move a lot. You basically take your legs (while lying down and putting your hands under your butt) and spell out the entire alphabet.
Just when you realize you are sweating from Pilates, Stephanie gives you a wink to keep on going!
How Many Calories do you Burn? P90X3 Pilates Review
A popular question I get a lot is, “How many Calories do you burn with P90X3?”. This is a very fair question! Based on a few people who have measured their calories with the Fit Bit and Jawbone tools, along with info from the P90X3 Test Group, the average calorie burn is anywhere from 120-180 calories per workout.
But don’t worry, even though you aren’t burning a ton of calories, you sure will FEEL your abs working while you increase flexibility and get the same “Yoga-ish” benefits out of this one.
To wrap up this P90X3 Pilates review, all in all I say it will stretch you (literally and figuratively). While it’s not my all-time favorite (I’d rather be doing my X3 Ab Ripper), it definitely provides a decent workout. Just be sure to not skip it (I am afraid this one might join the ranks of the original P90X Yoga, which everyone loved to skip – resist the urge and get it done!).
