I think you deserve HUGE congratulations for successfully completing a round of P90X3. Or, even if you haven’t yet completed X3 but want to plan ahead, that is also deserving of a HUGE congrats for planning ahead! Today we’ll discuss some thoughts on what to do after P90X3 based on the goals that you want to accomplish.
Today we will discuss what to do after P90X3 based on if you want to continue to become a true P90Xer, focus on your balance, gain muscle, lose more fat, train for a marathon, etc.
I have a lot of people see the benefit out of the Beachbody programs, and want to continue developing their skills. That is why, based on your goals, getting into another program can keep you pushing forward with success and excitement (welcome to the new Healthy Lifestyle, folks!).
I also recommend that people honestly start looking at becoming a Coach on our team. If you are serious about pushing yourself forward into living a dedicated and committed life to fitness while staying motivated, Beachbody Coaching can help you do that. Not only do you get paid to stay fit, but you get to join a community of fun and like-minded people that can help you succeed (better yet, you don’t have to “sell things” to people…yuck!).
Each section below is based on a goal that you may have after finishing P90X3. While I’ll share what I’m doing, what works best for YOU and your goals is what matters the most.
What to do after P90X3 – My Video Review
In the video below I discuss different options what to do after P90X3 is finished based on your goals:
What to do Next based on YOUR Goals
Below are a few recommendations on what to do after P90X3 that would be beneficial to you based on your goals. This is my own personal opinion of course, but based on what I have seen our team members within our Team Sweet Life community achieve, along with my own experience, these are the best options.
Goal #1: Continue to get better at the P90X Series
- P90X3 – Round 2. Obviously you now own the program and can continue to do it again and again without paying for a gym membership! Enjoy the moment and soak it in!
- P90X2 – Here might be a surprise…I do NOT recommend P90X after P90X3 (see: P90X vs P90X3 for reasons). P90X2 is a better follow-up to P90X3 because it picks up where X and X3 leave off. With P90X2 you focus on athletic fitness while taking what you did in X3, and working on your balance (core work!) and overall functional fitness. Compared to X3 the P90X2 workouts are around 45-50 mins.
Goal #2: Increase Cardio and Burn Body Fat to the Max
Do not think you can’t burn body fat to the max with P90X3, it is totally do able! Even if it takes another round or two, the point of this page is to explain the different options that compliment what to do after P90X3 to keep you from getting bored. Here are some good options following-up on your X3 journey:
- INSANITY Max 30 – While INSANITY is a great option (as discussed next), INSANITY Max 30 is an awesome follow up to P90X3. A great way to cut body fat while you focus on maintaining the muscle you built up with P90X3.
- INSANITY – As they say, this “burns body fat like candle wax”. It is no joke, and definitely works like a charm. The workouts are around 40-45 minutes in length and burn you out. By following the nutrition plan, there is no doubt you will burn body fat, revealing more of the toned muscle you developed during P90X3
- INSANITY the Asylum – As I mentioned in the video above, if you aren’t into the Max Interval Cardio but you want to rock and roll with an agility and sports training video, Asylum could be just the thing for you.
Goal #3: Add Muscle and either Bulk Up or Get Shredded
This is the Goal I have for my Post-P90X3 journey. A great way to take your ripped results to either SHREDDED results or Bulked results is with:
- Body Beast – Be sure to watch my video above for details on this program specifically, so you know what I’m talking about. You can absolutely mold this program to get the results you want. For me personally, I am aiming to get the type of results that will help me have those well rounded, beautiful muscles. I’m not looking to look like the HULK. If this sounds like you, get in on Body Beast and join me and the Sweet Life Fitness crew!
I hope you found value out of the post on What to do After P90X3. Do you have another option on what YOU are doing after P90X3? Comment below and let the Sweet Life community know. There could be some other awesome options out there that you are doing to get the MOST out of your P90X3 and Beachbody journey, and I’d love to hear about it.

Bob, i have looked at your site and advice several times. I am in OK but Im from SE KS originally and maybe that what me look at your stuff over other lol. I was focused on my P90X3 and finished it. I did not follow the nutrition plan and did not necessarily have the results I was looking for. I did lose 12 lbs and do feel like im on the road to better shape. Im 5’7” and now weigh 166lbs so Im not too far from where I want to be. I originally planned on doing the X3 lean program to drop some more weight and focus more on nutrition but then again i thought maybe the X3 Mass would be good. If you were me which would you do? Also, I never signed up for a coach after receiving my P90X3 so I was not sure If I could still do that since I have had it for about 5 months now. Thanks for your response in advance and thanks for your insight.
Coach Bob says
Hey Brent great to hear from you! You actually have a great question, and I will answer it with another question to you! When you look at the lean vs mass schedules, which one is more appealing to you? If you aren’t a fan of the lean schedule for example, you can still get the results you are after with mass, just don’t up your calories as it advises you to do. Stick with your nutrition guide plan, and use the mass schedule to build lean muscle. That will not hurt you as muscle does help to burn more fat and could be beneficial either way.
Also, feel free to contact me direct and we can chat about getting you set up on Team Beachbody: http://sweetlifefitness.net/contact/

Thanks Bob, that sounds like a plan. Im not opposed to either schedule but I do not want to give up muscle while still trying to trim down. I will keep in touch and let you know how it all works out. If I could just stay away from tailgating it would be so much easier lol. I really appreciate the response and keep up the good work. I’ll hit the subscribe button and keep up with you. Have a great week and keep pushing play!

I have less than a week to go with P90X3 and have already bought Body Beast.
Techbretz says
Great info Bob! I had a question for you. I’m reaching the last week of p90x3 and while I have lost some pounds and went down a waist size, I’m not as happy with my results as I was with p90x. I’m a 34 male, 6ft 173lbs, 31w. I still have around 15lbs to lose. I really wanna lose that extra few pounds of fat, but bulk up too. I’m wondering if I should do another round of p90x3 or insanity before going to a program like Body Beast, what do you think? I’m concerned about jumping into body beast without having lost all that fat I need to.
SweetLifeCoach says
Techbretz good question – do you know your Body Fat percentage? If not I’d recommend getting the tool to figure that out (you can get it cheap, around $10 at a local store – look for body fat caliper). Depending on your % I can help you set focus on the best option. To be honest, while I did hang on to some fat, Body Beast helped me a lot get the added muscle during bulking, that when I decided to do Max 30, the body fat melted much faster thanks to the muscle (and of course toning was easier too)
Techbretz says
SweetLifeCoach My caliper is in storage..I will grab another one tonight and get back to you with my body fat percentage. As far doing Max 30 after Body Beast, I was afraid of losing muscle mass by doing a cardio workout like Max 30 after doing something like Body Beast. What are your thoughts on that?
SweetLifeCoach says
Techbretz unless you are already lead, you may lose a bit of muscle but it shouldn’t be drastic unless you are going on some type of starvation diet. I still eat 2400-2500 calories per day even on a cutting phase so that I can ensure I am losing fat and not muscle. All good as long as you are following a good cutting plan (in all honesty I’d recommend following the containers with max 30 during eating)

I just finished p90x3, i am a 30 yr old female, 5’7 about 120lbs. Im also abit disapointed with the results. I have started the program over again but am concerned that the first block of the program will set me back on the results i have gained. The last block i started doing abs 3x a week also. Rotating thru x, x2 and x3 ab ripper and then stuck to the sheduale with the eliete block. I am trying to figure out how to go forward with the x 3 program without setting myself back. Should i mix it up between a week of classic then a week of lean or just stick to classic? I would like to shed about 5 more lbs off my abs. I dont over eat by any means and am on a strict paleo diet. Please give me any advice you have cause im at a loss for what is my best route. Thanks!!
Techbretz says
SweetLifeCoach Hi Bob, just measured by body fat percentage and I’m at 16.1%. Should I shred some more fat before trying a program like Body Beast? Let me know your thoughts, thanks!
SweetLifeCoach says
Sarah helm I would stick with Classic based on your goals. And don’t worry just because you may not be happy with round 1, rock out round 2!! There are times in the programs where I had to do two rounds in order to get the results I wanted. Paleo is a good diet to follow, just be sure you are eating enough so your body can repair the muscle you use during P90X3, and isn’t necessarily hanging onto fat because of low calories. Let me know if you have any questions about what I mean by that.
Keep me posted on your progress!
SweetLifeCoach says
Techbretz SweetLifeCoach 16.1% isn’t all that bad – once you start getting around 8-10% you’ll really start seeing abs. What you could do is start Body Beast to start building up your muscle foundation (muscle helps burn fat…), and then afterwards follow-up with a good cutting program like INSANITY Max 30
Techbretz says
SweetLifeCoach Thanks for the info! What do you think about which diet program I should follow? I have been reading post about sticking with the P90X nutrition guide when doing the Body Beast for those that are over 15% body fat, although I know my muscle gain won’t be as much, I read that it will help with keeping my fat gain to a minimum. Do you think this is a good route? Or should I stick with the Body Beast nutrition and then do a program like Max 30 to drop those extra pounds?
Sarah helm says
Thanks for the advice. I have started block 1 again. Just finished week one. I do know what you mean but i wont lie, im not a calorie counter. Im in good shape and lean. I can see my abs, its just the bottom of my stomach that id like to see more defined. I do however have a question for you regarding body fat mesurement. I know how it works witb the one where you pinch your skin and mesure, but i have a 13 yr old son and have a small amount of extra skin at the bottom of my stomach. Its not visable when im standing but it is there. Would that alter the actual reading using this method? Or should i measure a diffrent area of the body? And if so, what spot?
Thanks for getting back to me! U0001f60a
SweetLifeCoach says
Sarah helm for the best measurement it’s good to use that pincher tool (caliper) in a few locations. Stomach, Chest, Arms and then take the average of those spots.

How about if you’ve met your goals and now you just want to maintain? Thinking about doing 3-4 of my favorite vids a week and continuing to eat healthy. Would that be a good approach?
